Devices and installation

Q: Where can I buy PLCBus devices for my home?
A: You can buy PLCBus devices from any distributor, since they are all compatible. You may want to check http://www.hometomation.com/homeplanner/Devices.aspx for more information.

Q: How do I install my PLCBus devices?
A: There is no easy answer for this. Our recommendation is that you follow the instructions included with your devices. However, the installation of most devices is similar. You can find some instructions here.

Q: I have a 3-phase installation. Does this have any impact?
A: Yes, because you will need a phase-coupler (for instance, PLCBus 4825). The installation is quite simple. Also, you need to configure HomePlanner for 3-phase installation, so that it can properly communicate with the coupler. This is explained here.

Q: How many devices can I install?
A: The PLCBus protocol supports up to 256 devices per house. HomePlanner poses no limitation on this regard.

Scenes

Q: I created a scene, but one or more endpoints don't respond when the scene is activated. What can I do?
A: First, make sure that the scene you defined contains the endpoints in question. Note that for each endpoint in the scene, you need to indicate how the endpoint will operate in it (i.e. turned on, turned off, or dimmed).
If the definition of the scene is correct, you can reprogram the endpoints that don't respond. To do that, go to the endpoints tree, right-click on the endpoint you want to re-program, and choose "Reprogram scenes in this endpoint...". This will send all scene configuration to the endpoint.

Scripting

Q: I cannot edit scripts within HomePlanner. I get an error indicating that a component can be missing. What can I do?
A: This means that you haven't installed the required components (script debugger) from Microsoft. This component cannot be installed by HomePlanner, as it is required that you install it directly from Microsoft's website. The script debugger can be downloaded from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2f465be0-94fd-4569-b3c4-dffdf19ccd99&displaylang=en
You should also make sure you have Microsoft Windows Script 5.6 or later, which can be downloaded from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=c717d943-7e4b-4622-86eb-95a22b832caa

Licensing

Q: Is this software time-limited? Do I need to by a paid version?
A: HomePlanner is totally free. You don't need to pay anything in order to use it. There is no limit in the amount of time you use HomePlanner, nor there is any restriction to run it on multiple PCs. However, it is required that you register every copy of HomePlanner that you install. This is used to keep track of the downloads, and also to be able to provide better support.
